A team of astronomers have made an interesting discovery after examining pictures taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. The team noticed a star system with a 'zombie star' that may have survived after an uncommonly weak supernova explosion.

Normally, a supernova will wipe out the dying star, or white dwarf, but on rare occasions a particle remains left over, called a 'zombie star', which appears to be the case here.

If you look at the before and after pictures of spiral galaxy NGC 1309 you can see what has been identified as the zombie star.
