Admittedly we've been fussing quite a bit over the new iPhone and Galaxy Note recently. Now, Blackberry want in on the action. The once ubiquitous brand is upping the ante by introducing a brand new smartphone designed by none other than Porsche. Wow.

The thing is that while the new Blackberry's streamlined, glossy, Porschey smartphone is certainly its most stylish phone to date, the company has fallen short spec wise. Blackberry is trying to pull the proverbial wool over our eyes, and hope that we are dazzled enough by the shiny new exterior, to put our iDreams to one side. Can the brand clamber back into our hearts on design alone? Because that's all it is.

The smartphone, called the Porsche Design P’9983, is pretty much a re-worked BlackBerry Q10 with a 3.1-inch touchscreen. It has the same hardware behind the year-old model - the same dual Core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960, 2100 mAh battery and 720×720 3.1-inch touchscreen. The only actual leap Blackberry took was upping the storage to 64GB.

Blackberry think they can woo you with 'glass keys' and an exclusive prefix on your BBM pin that indicates to others that you have bought the (presumably) more expensive Porsche version. Essentially it's a phone for 'pretentious people' (insert preferred term of derision here).

The unfortunate thing here is that Blackberry is underestimating consumer savvy. We'll pay good money for something great - not the likes of 'Porsche Phone'.
