Today Facebook launched a new Page that’s entire purpose will be dedicated to tech news. FB Techwire, which is the latest addition to the FB Newswire, will compete in the battle with Twitter so as to gain the first ground breaking cover story from journalists. Initially released in April 2014, Newswire has become a platform for journalists to find, share, embed, and break their newsworthy content.
Facebook’s goal then, is to harness their platform so as to maximum journalists and tech journalists outreach, so as to ensure that Facebook will be their first news post.
Both FB affiliates will verify the newest content and categorize the best content of the day that is easily accessible. As Andy Mitchell, Facebook’s direction of news and global media partnerships said earlier this year, “It’s all about thinking of Facebook as a primary source of news content, formatted so journalists can easily scan content and pick out what’s newsworthy." Techwire will surely be treated the same way”.
