Today Valve and HTC have opened the sign up form for the Developer Edition of the new upcoming, and highly anticipated virtual reality headset, the HTC Vive.

Unveiled early this year the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the HTC Vive (also known as the HTC Re Vive), is a virtual reality headset that has an fantastic 1,080 x 1,200 screen that covers each eye, and has a 90 frames per second refresh rate.

The developer kit will be completely free of charge, and while both companies plan to distribute the kits every couple of weeks, supplies are obviously limited, which means you should sign up now!

To be eligible (or believable), developers must also briefly mention their team and project on the sign up form.

According to Valve’s press release, the first of the HTC Vive Developer Kits will be shipped out “later this spring”.

In order to create a true developer community, Valve just launched Steam VR Developer Community forum pages, which will give a general discussion, as well questions and solutions for the new device. The community is also visible to the public, which means you can follow the latest developments, but active posting is limited to developers only.

For those of you living under a rock, StreamVR is the virtual reality platform that is powering the HTC Vive.

Developers should sign up here for the HTC Vive.

Early this year, HTC announced that the Vive would be available to consumers later in 2015, and Valve also reaffirmed this.
