The Oculus VR will feature 360 degrees motion tracking and fully integrated audio

The Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headgear officially has a release window of first quarter 2016. What used to be just a glimpse on the gaming fanatic’s radar is now almost within reach.

Oculus VR hasn’t exactly announced the entry price point of the headgear but they promise it will be ‘compelling content, a full ecosystem, and a fully-integrated hardware/software tech stack designed specifically for virtual reality.’

Facebook bought the company in 2014 for $2 billion

The other virtual reality headgear heading into the market is Sony’s Project Morpheus which also has a 2016 release window. We compared the two VR headsets early this year. Then in late 2016, the HTC Vive VR is coming out. The HTC Vive is a joint venture between Valve Software and HTC.

The Oculus Rift started out as a Kickstarter project back in August 2012 which raised more than 2.4 million U.S. dollars. Creator of the Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey said that he considers himself fortunate to be able to jump start the VT industry in an online message board. The buzz then snowballed into something even more epic as Facebook eventually bought the company in 2014 for $2 billion. $2 billion to get more immersed in our beloved video games? Go Zuckerberg!

The consumer model of the Oculus VR is based on the Crescent Bay prototype that was introduced in September of last year. The Crescent Bay included 360 degrees motion tracking and fully integrated audio as well as support for seated and standing preferences. The final make of the Oculus VR will be sure to have these as well as some new upgrades. More details on the hardware and games planned will be revealed at E3 next month in Los Angeles. Stay tuned here on for more updates on the Oculus Rift.
