The robots are coming! The robots are coming! Brace yourselves! No, no it’s not a robot invasion where the Terminators are out for blood if your last name is Connor. Nor are robot maids just like Rosie from The Jetsons (My age is showing) out on Walmart shelves. But this cute little thing:
A crack team of scientists at the University of California Berkeley programed a robot to learn simple tasks via trial and error. That’s (gasp) just like a human being.
Robots are limited to what they were programed to do. Is this a step closer the Holy Grail of modern day robotics which is the fully functional Artificial Intelligence? I like to think so.
The robot is called BRETT (Berkeley Robot for the Elimination of Tedious Tasks) uses visual and sensory information to go about its learning process. BRETT currently learns things at a very slow rate but it is off to an excellent start. You go BRETT!
