Thank Apple that you can’t actually be tracked without your permission. But what if those with override capabilities like hackers and the government take advantage?

As if these privacy conspiracy theories weren’t enough. Apple has announced that the new iPhones will make it easier for you to track your friends, given that they also have iPhones. Sure it may be handy during get-togethers to get an update on their ETA but what about every other day of their existence? Stalker much.

Apple has filed two new patents with the new U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that could make geofencing and location sharing features significantly more useful according to a report by AppleInsider.

The first patent filed was for ‘custom location notifications’. This would come in handy for locating your friends and family real time. Even help them find you. It will be an extension of Apple’s Find My Friends app. But they obviously want it to be more specific and accurate thus the patent. Thank Apple that you can’t actually be tracked without your permission. But what if those with override capabilities like hackers and the government take advantage? I kid, I kid. Or am I? Yikes.

The second patent filed was for ‘indoor remote triggered scanning’ is naturally related to the prior. Getting accurate location data whilst indoors have been nothing less than complicated thanks to geofencing. This hopes to remedy that.

If Apple branches this system to all of its devices only time will tell what this invasive/convenient (however you want to look at it) innovation’s repercussions will be.
