Google has announced changes on their social media network hoping to gain more interest on the said platform.
Be honest, have you even tried opening your Google+ account ever? No? You don't think you have one? Well, of course you do, as Google make sure that everyone who has an account on Google automatically gets one. Launched in 2011, the platform has 2 billion...uhm...accounts (because users just doesn't seem to apply).
Earlier this week, Google has announced changes on their social media network hoping to gain more interest on the said platform. Rather than trying it out as a place to connect with your friends which is what Facebook does, Google finally realized it's not working on that route. So, this time around they wanted to focus on Communities and Collection as communicated through a Google+ post by Google's Stream Director Eddie Kessler.
"We’ve spent a lot of time listening to what people using Google+ had to say. There were two features they kept coming back to: Communities, which now average 1.2 million new joins per day, and Collections, which launched just five months ago and is growing even faster," shares Kessler on his blog post. From this we can gather that it will look more like a forum type of site than really socializing with people you already know in real life.

Even being one of the largest and most innovative companies in the world, Google failed to make Google+ work resulting to years of concocting the best formula for people to actually use it. According to an estimate study made by Stone Temple back in April, almost 90% of the 2.2 billion users haven't posted anything on their profiles (Yes, that includes you, of course!). Only 212 million was seen as active users which is light years away from the 1 billion active users which Facebook has according to their September announcement.
Now, Google+ gets to be the place where you nerd out with your fellow Star Wars fan all over the world or coo about that cacti plant that you've bought with fellow enthusiast. It's all about shared interest for this new Google+ life purpose. According to the post, health and photography are the two most engaging functions on the platform.

Kessler ends.This reimagined hopefully gives that boost that Google+ had been hoping for all these years or else we are doomed to more makeovers in the coming months or years. The beta version of these major design and context changes are already available and will soon be rolled out in both Android and iOS app as well.
