I have lived in both Bristol and London and find Bristol to be a much friendlier place. It's a very vibrant city with lots to do and easy to walk around (bike and scooter transport is great, busses are terrible) There's lots of art and music, amazing food and culture. If you look like you're lost someone will enviably ask you if they can help. Very Liberal city. Downsides are-it's expensive. Rent is close to London prices, pints, food etc similar. It's quite a 'young' city (not necessarily a bad thing) too much student accommodation which developers can build without adhering to residental building rules of ensuring a certain proportion of flats are 'affordable' this leads to sub standard properties and rising rent costs. Risk of a few areas of nightlife being hampered by building development.
