The x264 HD benchmark measures CPU performance by comparing how fast a system can encode a 1080p video into the HD x264 video format. To provide a fair comparison between CPUs, the same video conversion software is used.
Results are currently shown for two versions of the benchmarking software: x264 HD 4.0 and 5.0.1. Moreover, two performance results are usually available for each version: pass 1 and pass 2. Each pass represents an encoding option – in this case, pass 1 offers faster encoding.
