If 2013 was the year of the ‘selfie’, then perhaps 2014 is the year of the ‘3D selfie’ The new app . Itseez3D, has partnered with computer vision technology company Occipital, to let you turn any picture you snap with your iOS camera into a 3D object.
Basically you attach something called a Structure Sensor to an iPad and scan the person or thing you are taking a picture of with the camera eye.
To take your own selfie you have to remain very still, and not blink, so your figure is not distorted. Though I’m sure all those regular selfies have given you enough training.
The image then goes to a 3D cloud such as Sketchfab which allows you to put it into a game, mobile app or download it onto a 3D printer. This kind of thing used to be really expensive but now it’s extremely accessible. This kind of tech will be extremely useful to architects and engineers.
