50 Cent Launches Headphones With Artistic Robot

Intel’s recent collaboration with 50 Cent’s company SMS Audio to make heart beat-monitoring headphones, BioSport In-Ear Headphones (I guess the name 'Beats' was already taken) launched at a party in The New Museum in New York a few days ago. The best part about the launch was undoubtedly Heart Bot. Heart Bot, a robot that draws pictures to the beat of your heart, became the talk of the evening. 

The artists behind the Heart Bot installation are Aramique, who is the interactive director at Tool, and his team (Crouse, Matt Mets, Ranjit Bhatnagor, Adam Thabo, and Nikolay Saveliev). In order to get Heart Bot to sketch a heart beat, you have to place your hand on a sensor for 30 seconds so he can read your heart beat, which in turn activates Heart Bot’s mechanical limbs that are armed with pens. The resulting pictures are beautiful.

Aramique’s idea was to create a collaborative piece of art that unfolded throughout the evening. By the end of the night, everyone - humans and bot, would collectively “create a piece of art together.”

After Heart Bots initial one day foray at The New Museum in New York, he was shipped to San Francisco to be toured around Intel's facilities in San Francisco. Rumor has it that he might appear at CES 2015, but in case not, check out the video below.

"Heart Bot consists of a pulse sensor embedded into a small pedestal, a wall with two stepper motors mounted 12 feet high and 10 feet apart, and a long belt stretched between them...attached to the belt in the middle is a rectangular frame fitted with two pen-wielding robotic arms that can draw through the window in the middle of the frame."

These heart-beat related parties seem to be pretty in vogue. BMW had an installation in late 2012 called "PULSE: An installation close to our hearts", a really interesting interactive biometric display, which you can look at on RedPaperHeart.com.
