While it has often seemed distant from the public, NASA has been putting a lot more effort into public relations of late. As part of this, its astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) have become active social media users, using their unique position to tweet, blog and film their experiences in space. This effort first gained serious traction with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield’s rendition of ‘A Space Oddity’ filmed and performed in space, gaining millions of YouTube views.
