Online retail giant Amazon are adding another title to their name: Kindle Unlimited.

For just $9.99 per month (after a free 30 day trial period, of course), you can choose from a range of 600,000 books and “thousands” of audiobooks to read. Just like their music streaming service, theres are quite a few major publishers missing from the array, but somehow they have managed to secure famous titles like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and The Hunger Games, as well as a few extra exclusives. To make up for the missing names, Amazon have thrown in a three month subscription to Audible, as well as access to 2,000 of the audiobooks on its Whispersync service (which allows you to switch between reading and listening as you go along).

The revelations follow rumours which erupted a few days ago, as well as a year long tryst between Amazon and publishing companies over the low pricing of e-books on their site. French publishing house Hachette has been a key figure in the debate who are now, unsurprisingly, not part of the new reading service. It’s all got a bit high school in here, no?
