It's time to get ready for one of the biggest shopping events: Amazon Prime Day!
The shopping holiday created by Amazon promises more deals than Black Friday will ever offer and the best part is that you can stay at home while buying whatever you're dreaming of, at incredible discounts! That’s right: no travelling, no waiting in a crowd until the doors open, no crazy pushing. Everything can be done from home and will be delivered to your home. How does it work? We will explain everything you need to know.

What is Prime Day?

Amazon’s Prime Day is a 24-hour online shopping event that started in 2015. One day a year, Prime members are offered online deals with awesome prices for almost everything existing on Amazon, and we all know: there is almost nothing missing from Amazon.

There will be hundreds of thousands of deals and special offers for all kinds of things, from smartphones, wearables, headphones and any electronic device, to books, video, music or clothes. New deals start every five minutes during the entire day and this time Amazon is making it a 30-hour day! There will be special offers for everything that Prime offers, especially for Amazon products. We'll cover the best deals in this article, always keeping it updated.

When is Prime Day and which countries will take part?

This year’s Prime Day is officially on the 11th of July, but it will be actually starting on the 10th at 6PM PST and 9PM EST in the US, so it will go on for 30 hours. Amazon expanded Prime Day this year to 13 countries: US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, India, Japan and China.

What's new? Prime Day 2017 vs Prime Day 2016

This year, the big difference is that there's more time for shopping. You basically have 30 hours to get deals, even go to sleep and check out better deals in the evening again.

Prime Day 2017 will also make it easier to find deals, since Prime members can search for deals depending on their interests. There will be 22 areas of interest available, which can be personalized, including tech, games, home, beauty, fashion, sports and pets.

Prime members who have Alexa-enabled devices can easily shop for deals using voice commands and even have the possibility to start shopping earlier than others! Alexa will enable you to shop Prime Day Spotlight two hours before everyone else, starting at 4pm PST on Monday, July 10th.

Last year’s Prime Day was the biggest day in Amazon’s history and there are even higher expectations for this year. According to analysts’ estimates, Amazon generated $525 million in sales last year, having sold thousands of Kindle Paperwhite e-readers, Fire HD tablets and Fire TV Sticks, 200,000+ headphones, 90,000 TVs, more than 14,000 Lenovo laptops, 23,000+ iRobot Roombas and much more.

Amazon’s first Prime Day was in 2015 and it wasn't clear how big the demand will be on such a day, so popular items were quickly sold out. Being in their third year, we can expect much larger stocks of top-selling items, but it is still important to consider that lightning deals can disappear pretty quickly.

What deals can we expect this year?

Amazon’s own products usually have very high discounts, so you’ll be to save a lot of money if you plan on getting a Fire tablet, a Kindle e-reader or a voice-controlled speaker. Amazon is leading the e-book market and offers a wide range of choices for e-readers. The company’s latest e-reader, Kindle Oasis, has a dual-battery charging system and a power saving mode that can extend battery life to 3 months. The device can be charged through the included leather cover, so that you won’t ever have to worry about running out of battery. However, if you don’t want to spend too much on an e-reader, you can choose one of the cheaper models, like the Kindle Voyage or the Kindle Paperwhite. All these Kindle devices have 6-inch screens with resolutions of 300 PPI, but there are differences when it comes to storage capacity, design and navigation buttons. You can check out the full comparison here: Kindle Paperwhite vs Kindle Voyage vs Kindle Oasis.

Tablets will also have huge discounts, starting with Amazon’s Fire tablet, one of last year’s bestsellers, available for only $33 on Prime Day 2016. The Fire tablet is an entry-level device, with a 7-inch display, a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor and 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage. Even though the internal storage is not impressive, the advantage of buying a Fire tablet is that you get free unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content (e-books, movies, songs, games and more). There are also larger Fire tablets, like the Amazon Fire HD 8 or Amazon Fire HD 10, both with quad-core processors of up to 1.5 GHz. These are perfect devices for basic tasks and entertainment. If you need a powerful tablet for more complex tasks, make sure to check out the deals for the iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tablets. The new iPad Pro 10.5” is powered by Apple’s latest A10X processor and a high-resolution display (2224 x 1668 pixels). With its powerful processor, large display, as well as the compatible Apple Pen, this device is perfect for working on the go, especially if you need to use apps that require a lot of processing power, like photo or video editing apps. In case you are an Android fan, you can take a look at the new Samsung Galaxy Tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. It has a high-resolution AMOLED display (2048 x 1536 pixels), 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of expandable memory and, just like the iPad Pro, it can also be used with a pen.

If you are planning on getting a new phone, Prime Day is one of the best times to make your purchase. Taking into account that many flagship devices are expected this fall, like the iPhone 8 or the Galaxy Note 8, this is the perfect opportunity to get high-end phones at reduced prices, as manufacturers are making space for the upcoming stars. The Galaxy S8, LG G6 and OnePlus 3T are only a few of the phones which are expected to get big price cuts. OnePlus 5 was announced just a few weeks ago, so its predecessor - OnePlus 3T - might not be available for long and it’s probably going to be the smartphone with the highest discount. OnePlus 3T is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 and features Dash Charge, a proprietary charging technology that guarantees a 60% battery charge in just 30 minutes.

But Amazon Prime Day is not only about mobile devices. Attractive deals are expected for a wide range of consumer electronics, some of the most popular categories being game consoles and TVs. With Xbox One X and the next-generation PlayStation just a few months away, this is the moment to get your hands on the current Xbox One S or Sony PlayStation 4 Pro if you don’t want to wait for the upcoming game consoles. For an immersive gaming experience, you are also going to need a proper display, so you might want to check out some of the best 4K TVs, like the LG UJ6300 43" or Samsung J5000 43".

Why is Amazon Prime Day a big deal and how to take full advantage of it

Amazon Prime Day is definitely a great chance to buy the things you want at a cheaper price, but there are a few things to consider before getting too excited.
The purpose of Amazon Prime Day is, of course, to promote the Prime service. You will have the chance to test Amazon Prime for 30 days, and you might want to continue using it afterwards. That's what Amazon hopes you and many other people will do. Shopping on Amazon is fun, but after the 30 days you should take the time to ask yourself whether you are going to need it in the future.

On Prime Day itself, it is pretty easy to get into the shopping flow and buy more things than you actually need, so we recommend that you make a list with the things you need or might be needing soon and try to stick to it. We also recommend that you check twice if deals are really “good deals”. It can be that the price drop is not really that much of a drop, it just seems to be. Or, which is even more likely, the lower price of a product can make it seem like a better deal, but the truth is that, sometimes, the more expensive product can be a much better deal when considering all specifications. This is all you need to know until the big day.

To make sure that you are getting the best deals for the product categories you are interested in, we will provide you with the latest product comparisons on Prime Day, as well as the best deals available.
