LG’s latest flagship phone, the LG G3, is definitely big. As well as having perhaps the highest resolution display on the market, the G3 also has one of the largest screens for devices in its category. Perhaps then, this is why, in order to promote it, LG chose to build the largest advertisement in history.
This billboard advertisement, fittingly built in Riyadh, the city soon to be home to the tallest building in the world, is truly enormous. Measuring in at 240 meters wide and 12 meters high, the ad has been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records, to be the largest of its kind in the world.
The structure, due to its location near the King Khalid International Airport, is often exposed to high speed desert winds, meaning it required at massive 1800 tons of steel reinforcing to make it stay up. Despite this, the site was chosen due to the fact that it is on a busy thoroughfare, which 20 million people drive past every year.
Furthermore, while the advertisement currently is for the G3 smartphone, the billboard is able to be converted to promote other products from the South Korean manufacturer as well. With this, LG hopes that the investment will pay off, and the company will gain an additional $25 million of revenues over the life of the billboard.
