If you’re not feeling well, try checking your Apple Watch-- that's what Dennis Anselmo did and it saved his life!
According to report from the Sun, the 62-year old Dennis Anselmo has been working in his garden when he started to “feel terrible”. His first thought was that he was coming down with a fever, but apparently it was more fatal than that.
Dennis told The Sun: “We were building a fence and placing posts in the ground. We finished lunch at 1.15 p.m and was back to work.
“I felt terrible - like I had a really bad flu. I worked for maybe ten minutes but said to my helper I need to sit down.
“So I sat on trailer for a couple of minutes and was planning to go home - I felt all over the place.”
Luckily, Anselmo had a habit of checking his Apple Watch. The Apple Watch surprisingly measured his heart rate at 210 bpm, versus the 50bmp, which he normally has.
Paramedics were called and according to EMT, a sky-high heart rate like that out of the blue could indicate a possible heart attack. Thankfully, he was rushed to the hospital where surgeons conducted an operation on him to clear any blockages in his arteries.
“They told me that if I had gone home and gone to bed – as many people do – I would likely have had another, more serious bout in the middle of the night,” Anselmo said. “Those second attacks are the ones that kill. That is a common problem.”
Dennis is a watch collector and owns 35 of them, but now, he only wears the watch that saved his life.
This is not the first time Apple has saved a person’s life, in fact, a teenager who had a persistent, elevated heart rate was prevented from a fatal condition last September because of the device’s heart rate measurement. This might not be the main feature of the Apple Watch, but it sure saved a lot of lives.
It is cool to know that technology has reached a point where it can help us monitor our health. We hope that Apple Watch continues to help more people by adding even more health functions in the next version of their smartwatches.
