On March 9, CEO Tim Cook took the stage for Apple’s Spring Forward event. Announcing the newest of their laptops, an entire line called New MacBook, as well as the very small updates for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

The new MacBook is a tiny two pounds and 13.1mm, which makes it the thinnest and lightest Mac to date. The 12-inch device is 24% thinner than the 11-inch MacBook Air, and it has a brand new keyboard that is the full width of the laptop. The new keyboard also supports a new “butterfly mechanism” for a better typing experience and each key has individual LED lighting.

It has a 12-inch screen, and boasts Retina display with 2304x1440 resolution. Even the touchpad has been upgraded, so that it no longer clicks.

"Every component of the MacBook reveals a new innovation. From its fanless design, ultra-thin Retina display and full-size keyboard that's 34 percent thinner, to its all-new Force Touch trackpad, versatile USB-C port and breakthrough terraced battery design, the new MacBook is the future of the notebook,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. The USB Type-C connector makes it the first laptop in the world to feature the reversible USB standard.

Thanks to Intel’s Core M Broadwell chipset, there is no fan necessary for the device, which means it makes less noise. Additionally, Apple guarantees an even longer battery life. Apple also promises that the New MacBook is the “world’s most energy-efficient notebook”, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The New MacBook will be available from 10 of April, and it starts at $1,299. It comes in silver, space gray, and the brand new “stunning gold”.
