But who really came first? Did GoPro really snatched the design?
No, they're not twins, they're not even cousins but they surely look alike! This is why Polaroid filed a case against GoPro regarding the design patent of their Cube against the latter's Hero4 Session. But who really came first? Did GoPro really snatch the design?
Polaroid Cube had been around since 2014 but they only obtained their patent through C&A Marketing May of this year, which was two months before the release of the GoPro Hero Session. But then again, GoPro was able to have a few EU patents and a US patent last March so this is where the timeline becomes a bit messy.
Besides, GoPro could just go and sue several clones of their action cameras which are all selling in both ebay and Amazon. This design war among action cameras has been a topic for years which prompted their other competitors namely Garmin and Sony to really make sure their design offering is one-of-a-kind.
Truth be told, the GoPro Hero4 Session is lightyears away from the Polaroid Cube.
According to GoPro CEO Nick Woodman, they had worked on Hero4 Session for three years prior to its official release. Truth be told, the GoPro Hero4 Session is lightyears away from the Polaroid Cube when it comes to specs. Sure, they might look alike on the outside but inside tells a whole different story.
For starters, the GoPro doesn't need a case to be waterproof along with better frame rate and a much higher resolution. As for the price the GoPro Hero4 Session sells at $299 and the Polaroid Cube at $99 and $150. Why Polaroid is trying to push on this issue is a mystery, but all we can do is keep our eyes peeled and see how they might actually earn some extra cash from this lawsuit. That is, if they win, of course.
