The HTC event is just around the corner, which means the internet is abuzz with leaks and speculations. But the most interesting rumor is that HTC is making a serious superphone.

Possibly named the One A9, the interwebs seems to believe that this device will have ridiculously intense specifications the like of which can only be matched by another superphone: the Acer Predator 6 gaming phone.

Weirdly, when that device was revealed earlier this month, it somehow managed not to get a lot of press. But it seems that HTC is determined to employ a marketing strategy that works after their One M9 flop.

The One A9 made its debut earlier this month of Geekbench. It revealed everything that is good in the world: the MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor and 4GB of RAM. For those that don’t understand what this means, it translates to something along the lines of “HOLY SMOKES BATMAN! THE FUTURE!”

A deca-core processor is pretty mind blowing. And the Helio X20 runs an octa-core processor that splits up two quad-core bits: one runs at 1.4GHz and one speeds along at 2.0GHz. For those bored by that, don’t worry, because there is still a dual-core processor that runs with the octa-core and hits an intensely fast pace of 2.5Ghz for the multitasking and multimedia.

So yeah, in the nerd world this is pretty huge. It is absolutely the largest processor in the industry, far surpassing the very-talked-about Snapdragon 810 and even Nvidia’s Tegra K1. And with all that, HTC tacked on 4GB of RAM, which makes this one of the two most powerful smartphones in the market.

Aside from the benchmarks though, we don’t have a lot of intel. Other leaks suggest a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution display, but that was seemingly for the HTC Aero/Hero, not the One A9. However, the Aero could just be a codename for the A9. At this point though, it would be pretty lackluster to have a resolution any less than 2,560 x 1,440. Pretty much every serious flagship contender has it (LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S6).

If it’s going to power a 2K display and a deca-core processor, HTC must have come up with a killer battery. No smartphone on the market currently needs as much energy, so we hope they came up with something clever - that lasts all day.

It’s likely the One A9 will be one of the first to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Of course it will also have the most recent version of HTC’s custom user interface, Sense 7.

Let us all hope that this smartphone isn’t just a dream, and might be landing in the hands of the good girls and boys before the year’s end.
