Last week, a press release that has since been taken down from the LG website stated that Apple would develop a massively improved resolution display for their iMac in 2015.

The entire press release discussed the future of 8K, which has a stunning 7680x4320 pixel resolution, which to date, is something we can’t fathom just yet. It is four times the resolution of a 4K screen with 4 times the amount of pixels, which is already hard to follow - didn’t we just get 4K in 2014? LG mentioned a launch of 8K in Japan, and an 8K service during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea, and then LG mentioned Apple.

“Apple has also announced that they will release the ‘iMac 8K’ with a super-high resolution display later this year”, the press release stated, despite the fact that Apple had not in fact announced any such thing just yet.

Last October Apple launched the 27-inch iMac with the impressive 5K display, so it seemed highly that the iMac would have such a major upgrade so soon. However, it is even more unlikely that the statement was a mistake, which means Apple is already collaborating with LG to perfect its next-generation iMacs and their 8K resolution display.

Since we have no other leads except this one, which clearly indicated “later this year”, we have to assume that the new iMac will debut in the fall, with the rest of Apple’s upgrades.
