As everyone knows, Microsoft had an “oops!” moment yesterday when official images of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL were “leaked” on Microsoft’s UK site yesterday.
Is anyone else not buying this absolutely bullshit “leaks” business? I’m sorry but these kinds of “oops!” don’t really happen.
As everyone in the world knows (or not, if that’s why you’re reading this article) Microsoft had an “oops!” moment yesterday when official images of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL were “leaked” on Microsoft’s UK site yesterday.
I’m really going to need everyone to stop calling them leaks and start calling them what they are actually are - promotion.
Anyways, aside from this little incident ("accident") on Wednesday, Microsoft has done a stand up job at keeping these two new flagships top-secret, much to the chagrin of everyone. That’s actually not even an overstatement, because it’s no secret that these two new flagships that are set to be released October 6 will be by far the most advanced we’ve ever seen from Lumia, and from Microsoft in general.
Frankly, Microsoft has been hit where it hurts, especially with Apple and Google. I like to root for the underdog, what can I say? (Yes, I realize that Microsoft is by no means an underdog).
We now know for sure that the 950 and 950 XL will feature 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch screens respectively, both boasting a QHD resolution.
They will both have a massively upgraded camera, a 20 megapixel Zeiss sensor, a USB Type-C, and both will obviously debut Windows 10, which means that it will have Windows 10 Continuum, which means the handsets can turn into portable desktops.

The rest is still more or less speculated, but I think the 950 will have Snapdragon 808, whereas the 950 XL will have Snapdragon 810, which cements the XL variant as the flagship. The smaller edition will have a 3,000mAh battery, whereas the larger will have a 3,300mAh battery (reasonably).
The rest of the goodies are the same, and it includes, I hope, an Iris scanner which is pretty amazing. The front camera will have only 5 megapixels, though, and it will be made of polycarbonate - and if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, metal unibody or bust.
It’s 2015 so obviously it will have fast and wireless Qi charging. Interesting, the batteries will be removable.
The price and availability is still shush-shush.
