Measuring 0.47-inches (12.4mm), HP's newest offering the Elite Folio G1, is thinner than an AA battery and even thinner than the latest 12-inch MacBook which measures 0.52-inches (13.1mm) making it the thinnest in the world today. It's definitely attractive for those who are always on the go but wanted an almost weightless laptop for company. It's also 15 percent lighter than HP's own EliteBook 1020.
"Just because someone uses a PC at work, doesn't mean they have to sacrifice their desire for a cool, thin and light device," said Alex Cho, vice president and general manager, Commercial PCs, Personal Systems, HP Inc. "That's why we designed the HP EliteBook Folio -- the world's thinnest and lightest business-class notebook -- which offers users the best of both worlds: a premium design that consumers want while elevating business-critical security and manageability to delight the needs of IT."
It's made of durable diamond-cut CNC aluminum body while providing a 180-degree piano hinge which allows it to be completely opened flat on surfaces. According to HP this provides users greater flexibility and the ability to easily share and collaborate with others around them. It's definitely a great addition but falls short to the greater flexibility that a Lenovo Yoga can provide.
It might be small in size but thankfully HP was able to squeeze in their full-sized Premium Keyboard, a Windows 10 gesture-enabled click pad, and two USB-C™ ports with Thunderbolt™ 3. As USB Type-C ports are becoming popular, HP knew the need for not just one but two is certainly needed. Users are definitely assured with faster file transfers and charging with these additions.
HP ihave collaborated with Bang & Olufsen acoustical engineers to custom-tune the audio of the folio resulting to a notable sound experience with at least 40 percent increase in loudness. The added fine tuning for its sound system will be a good asset for those who are always on Skype calls or for simply listening to music or watching videos. As it is made for productivity, HP also partnered with Microsoft for a more seamless integration of Skype giving it a dedicated key on its keyboard.
It will already come in Windows 10 Pro straight from the box and is built with an optional 6th generation Intel® Core™ M vPro™ processor, optimized for high performance and efficiency. No overheating for this one as it has the fanless operation technology and can provided up to 10 hours of battery life.
If you are looking for the ultra-sharp display, you can shell out around $1,199 for the 4K display edition of the Elite Folio G1. The basic model will sell at $999 and will be available this coming March. HP also introduced other offerings which include the 14-inch third generation EliteBook 1040 which is said to be the "world's thinnest 14-inch business-class notebook". The third generation EliteBook 800 which comes in 12.5-inch and 15.6-inch displays was also unveiled.
