Oppo smartphones are great, in fact you can drive your car over it and it will still freaking work! Crack a walnut with it or slice a watermelon, and it will still be amazing and powerful for all the things you need it for like making calls and messaging people.
Unfortunately, it's not gaining that much buzz in the Western world as compared to the biggest names in the market that get the lionshare for smartphones. And not because Oppo phones lack in the features department, but being fairly new and a Chinese brand, it needs to appeal more in other regions other than Asia.
And one solution they thought of is through Project Spectrum. No, it's not some top secret mission to sabotage all existing smartphone brands, it's basically just toning down their customization of the Android OS.
Releasing a beta version of their Project Spectrum, users were treated with a firmware which is pretty much very close to stock Android. Sure, there are still some signature Oppo features which include the screen-off gestures and custom camera app, but all in all it's Google's Android Lollipop most basic form.
The brand plans to adapt the same treatment to the upcoming Marshmallow upgrade in the coming months. At the moment the beta version is only available for download on the Find 7 and Find 7a models but support for other models are definitely coming in the next weeks or months.
Oppo might not have directly announced the reason for this venture, it certainly aim to reach a wider market for their smartphones especially to the European and American market. Stock Android with no bloatware is much preferred by many and Oppo certainly wanted to get a market share of that crowd. Hopefully, with the Project Spectrum, more people will recognize the brand as a competitive player in the smartphone business.
