NASA has been cataloging many of its magnificent discoveries over the years. On its Flicker gallery you can see 43 images with descriptions alongside them of when and where these were taken. I picked my favourite two here.
This giant light nebulous glow is called NGC 1068 and is estimated to be 50 million light years away. It is a composite image of pictures taken between 2000 and 2008
This is one of our nearest and brightest galaxies containing a rapidly growing black hole nearly twice as massive as the one in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy. A strong wind is coming away from the galaxy at a rate of a million miles an hour.
This image of the transparent and ethereal Horesehead Nebula was taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope on April 19, 2013. Astronomers photographed the iconic Nebula specially in infrared light to mark the 23rd year of Hubble on the space shuttle Discovery.
The spectacular Nebula was discovered over a century ago, and has been popular with amateur and professional astronomers alike. It stands out against the contrast of Milky Way stars and far away galaxies which can also be picked up by the infrared.
