Sneak Peek At The New Nintendo NX

What we want to see, and what we probably will see

The new console has been codenamed Nintendo NX and will probably be a console-portable hybrid, that will allow users to play their games on the big screen but then also take them as they go (continuity feature, pretty please!)

It’s nearly three years ago that Nintendo launched the Wii U, which means the next new gaming console is in the works. Indeed, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has even confirmed that the new console is an entirely new concept, “we are not thinking of this as a ‘simple replacement’ for the 3DS or the Wii U”.

The new console has been codenamed Nintendo NX, and it can’t come soon enough. The Wii U was by far the biggest flop in Nintendo’s history, and with Sony and even Microsoft attempting to jump into the game world, Nintendo needs to step it up.

The Wii U has sold nearly 10 million units, whereas the GameCube hit 22 million. Even a new Legend of Zelda won’t help increase sales that much.

Nintendo rocked the world the Nintendo DS, a portable console with a second touchscreen - while everyone else laughed at handheld gaming. Even the Wii revolutionized TV gaming. So for the NX to launch Nintendo back into it’s first place, it has to be something completely original - with no hint of the 3DS or Wii U in sight.

I’m thinking there will be a brand new control system, seeing as how the Wii U has a dual controller/touchscreen that failed to attract anyone. Also likely is that the new console won’t be handheld, in fact, it’s entirely possible that they will do away with mobile-only devices pretty soon.

But before we get discouraged, let’s remember that Nintendo has always been an innovator. They were the first touchscreens and motion controls in gaming. Actually, they even created VR more than two decades ago!

So really, we are probably going to get a console-portable hybrid, that will allow users to play their games on the big screen but then also take them as they go (continuity feature, pretty please!). And if Nintendo was smart, it would run a version of Android.

Nintendo has been so secretive about the NX that probably it won’t even be revealed until next year. Sadly, we’re most likely looking at a holiday 2016 release for this bad boy, if we stack it up against all other former releases - that were teased for over a year before they were released!
