Thinking Ahead: Microsoft’s 11 New Devices

The IFA Keynote Address of Microsoft covered its many accomplishments of late, but the real focus was on Windows 10, which powers a wide range of new devices. Microsoft partnered with various hardware producers in order to bring the Windows 10 experience to 192 countries.

1. Acer Aspire One Cloudbook 11

MSRP: $190.00

This device is one of Acer’s newest entry-level laptops. Its affordable price coupled with the ease of use of Windows 10 and Office 365 makes it an ideal choice for educators and students alike. It is powered by an Intel Celeron Processor N3050 and has 2GB DDR3L memory.

2. Lenovo Ideapad 100 (14")

MSRP: $319.00

Also one of the newest entry-level laptops unveiled at IFA. This device is a workhorse and has an Intel Celeron N2840 processor with 2GB DDR3L memory similar to the Acer Cloudbook above.

3. Dell Latitude 13 7000 Series

MSRP: $1,199.00 - $1,549

Built for business, this laptop has premium specs. The lowest end model has an Intel® Core™ M-5Y10c Processor (0.8-GHz, max turbo frequency 2.0-GHz, 4-MB L3 Cache, 4.5W), 4GB RAM and 128GB solid state drive. It supposedly “The world’s most secure 2-in-1 is a lightweight Ultrabook™ and a detachable 13-inch tablet in one powerful device, featuring Intel® Core™ M processors.”

4. HP Elitebook Folio 1020

MSRP: $1,649.00

This is HP’s second business laptop unveiled at IFA. It is made of CNC aluminum and magnesium alloy for an ultralight feel. Behind its sleek good looks is secure hardware: a Core M-5Y71 1.2-GHz (max turbo frequency 2.9-GHz), 4-MB L3 Cache, 4.5W processor with storage of 256 GB SATA III Self Encrypting Drive Opal 2 for its highest end model.

5. Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 260/460

MSRP: $949 and 1,049

The latest Thinkpads from Lenovo. They turn to tablets by offering 360 fold back feature that rose to popularity during the Windows 8 days. The smaller 260 is a 12.5-inch machine with 512GB solid state hard drive while the 460 is a 14-inch version with either 1TB hard drive or 256GB SSD. Display resolutions are full HD 1,920x1,080 and 2,560x1,440 respectively.

6. Panasonic Toughpad FZ-M1

MSRP: $2,899.00

As the name suggests, this tablet is built like a tank and passes military grade testing. It can also fit in your pocket at just 7 inches. It is backed by an Intel Core i5-4302Y processor and has a variety of add-on modules and function-expanding accessories.

7. 249 Euro TrekStor Volks-tablet 4 2-in-1

MSRP: €219,00 or $243.00

The first TrekStor device to come preinstalled with Windows 10. It is a 10.1" Windows® Tablet with Intel® Atom™ Z3735F CPU, 32GB memory and 2GB RAM. It can turn into a notebook with its dock and has a QWERTY keyboard.

8. Dell Inspiron AIO Series

MSRP: $999.00

The thinnest Inspiron yet. Has an adjustable stand and full HD touch screen. Highest end specs are 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ processor (6M Cache, up to 3.4 GHz), 12GB DDR3L (4GB x1 +8GBx1), and 1 TB 5400rpm Hard Drive with 32GB mSATA SSD.

9. ASUS ROG G752

MSRP: TBA

This gaming notebook has solid specs. It is liquid cooled and is powered by an astonishing quad-core, eight-thread Core i7 with a 2.6 GHz base frequency and up to 3.5 GHz Turbo on a single core. Highest end models have 2.7 GHz to 3.6 GHz and upgrades the L3 cache from 6 MB to 8 MB. Top tier models also have NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4/8 GB, NVME 128/256/512 GB SSD up to 2TB SATA HDD storage, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4/8 GB GPU.

10. Toshiba Radius 12

MSRP: ~$1,500.00

This premium convertible PC is 12.5 inches with a whopping ultra HD 4k display. It has Intel Core 6th-generation processors up to a Core i7 dual-core, 8GB RAM, and up to 512GB hard drive. It has a USB 3.1 Type C port. 4k display is one option but 1080p is standard.

11. ASUS Zen AiO S Series

MSRP: €1099 or about $1,200

This premium range of all-in-one PCs have a 4k display, USB-C, and incredibly good looks. The lower end 21.5-inch Zen AiO S Z220IC has Core i5-6400T processor, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS display powered by a mobile Nvidia GeForce GPU. There is also an option for Core i7-powered variant of the Zen AiO S with a better graphics chip and 16GB RAM. Top of the line models have 32GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
