For those unsure about the cost of the Apple Watch (read: everyone), the rental site Lumoid has a perfect solution for you.
Starting in April, Lumoid will offer a rental service for the Apple Watch, as a “Home Try-On” period, which will start at $45 per week for the Apple Watch Sport. Should you chose the buy the watch, $25 of the original rental price will go towards the final purchase price. The Apple Watch Steel will cost $55 a week, with $35 going to the final price.
The “try before you buy” tradition seems to be catching on with millenials. Lumoid has previously offered a similar service for wearable tech devices like Fitbit, Jawbone and Garmin. Launched early this year, Lumoid has created a business model that lets customers select up to 5 devices to try within 7 days before deciding which wearable better fits the users lifestyle. Lumoid will be adding the Moto 360 smartwatch to their stock this week, and soon other Android Wear smartwatches will follow.
Although supply will be limited at first, the company has already created a waitlist to rent the watch as soon as it goes on sale April 24. They will also not the high-end Apple Watch Edition, which starts at $10,000, available in stock.
For those a little bit uncertain about the wearable technology, this is an excellent answer that allows you to avoid Apple’s return policy restocking fees anyways. Unfortunately, Lumoid will only be offering rentals within the US. Based on the price tag of the Apple Watch alone, however, anywhere from $349 to $17,000, the rental idea might just be smart service.
