When looking for the tablets with the best display, it’s important to keep in mind that there’s more to factor in than just the resolution of the screen. Pixel density and display type are also important. Plus, you’ll also need to ensure that the tablet is powered by enough CPU speed and RAM to allow you to enjoy all of the features and functions that make tablet PCs so unique.

Display 

There are two main types of screens in today's tablets: LCDs and OLED/AMOLED displays. Higher-end generally come with AMOLED displays, but some have LCD displays as well. Whereas LCDs are thin and light and have a low refresh-rate flicker, OLEDs (organic light-emitting diode displays) and AMOLEDs (active-matrix light-emitting diode displays) emit light directly. Therefore, the contrast ratios are very high. The display's response time is also much faster than in the case of LCDs. Additionally, be sure to check if the tablet’s display comes with anti-reflection coating.

Pixel density

What’s there to know about a tablet’’s display quality? Aside from the screen size and resolution, it’s important to take a look at pixel density (expressed in pixels per inch). It not only addresses the resolution of screens but also of scanner and image sensor quality. When comparing tablets based on display, we suggest narrowing down your search to include tablets with a pixel density of at least 250 ppi. However, some top tablets such as the 2019 Apple iPad mini and Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4” have pixel densities of at least 300 ppi.

Screen size

What’s the ideal size for tablets? We’d say that if you’re after high-quality graphics, you’ll want to opt for one that is at least 8 inches. However, if you need a larger screen and more power, it’s best to opt for a 10-inch tablet; most can handle graphics-heavy games, productivity software, and streaming. Thumb-typing with a 10-inch tablet is still feasible as well, making them portable enough to use with one hand and easy to handle when playing games.

Refresh rate

When a tablet refreshes the screen faster, the less lag there is. You’ll also notice that when one has a higher refresh rate, gameplay and video playback doesn’t lag, and the image doesn’t appear to stutter. Images seem to move faster and look crisper, which makes the display look that much more beautiful and clear. Top tablets now have refresh rates of at least 120Hz, making it easy to find accessible laptops with buttery smooth displays.
